The texas tech indoor classic competes in the Big 12 Conference. The Men’s Indoor Track and Field team competes in the NCAA Division I and invites top competitors from around the country to compete against them at the annual Big 12 meet. The club teams are for student-athletes who would like an opportunity to balance their varsity interests with those of their club teams. As a student-athlete, you will remain eligible to compete for your school’s varsity team by remaining under the academic monitoring of your high school coach, participating on your high school’s club team or becoming a member of an intramural sports league. Meet Information
The Texas Tech Red Raiders host the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Mike A. Myers Convocation Center on the Texas Tech University campus in Lubbock, Texas. The meet is held each spring and is the conference championship event for indoor track and field, and will run from Saturday, February 25 through Sunday, February 26, 2019. The meet will begin with the men’s and women’s shot put and weight throw competitions at 8 am on Saturday, February 25, and then move on to the remainder of the women’s and men’s finals. After the women’s and men’s finals, the meet will close out with the awards ceremony immediately following the women’s and men’s distance races.
Club Team Information
There are three club team events that the Red Raiders can participate in, each with its own set of rules and regulations. Participation in a club team is not a varsity sport, and student-athletes are not eligible to compete for their school’s varsity team while participating on a club team. However, as an individual athlete, you may qualify for and participate in an intramural sport on a college campus or in a local recreation league. You may use your club team experience and skills to get an edge in those leagues. Indoor Track and Field Clubs – The Red Raiders will participate in the Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Clubs. This is a competitive meet that runs from February to May each year and generally occurs during the week of classes. The Tech Indoor Track and Field Clubs will have a variety of events, including team relays and longer distance races such as the 3000-meter run and the mile run.
Athlete Registration
You must register as an individual student-athlete to compete in the Texas Tech Indoor Classic. You will use the same user name and password as you used to register for your school’s varsity team.
Meet Fees
The Texas Tech Indoor Classic is an indoor meet and will be held at the Myers Center. As such, the meet will take place on the Myers Center’s track. The meet fee is $75 per athlete, which includes admission to the meet and use of the Myers Center track. The fee is non-refundable, and you must send the fee directly to Texas Tech Track and Field. You may pay your fee with a credit card at https://tctf.tix.com/home.aspx or you may send a check to Texas Tech Track and Field. You will receive an email once your payment has been processed, and then you will be able to access the meet information through the meet website.
Scoring Overview
The scoring for the Texas Tech Indoor Classic will be similar to that used at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Meet. Each weight throw and shot put throw will be worth three points, and each distance race will be worth one point. The top eight finishers in each distance race will be used for the scoring. The throwers and distance runners will be scored from outside the scoring area to the inside, and the shot putters will have a diagonal line to throw through for their final score.

The Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Club will be coached by the Red Raider coaches, who have experience coaching track and field, and the officials will be Tech officials.
Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Club Rules
– The Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Club will be limited to the top five student-athletes from each Distance Group. These athletes must maintain their status on the track and field team while participating on the club team.
– The Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Club will run each week in the same time slot as the meet, in the same location, and on the same track as the meet.
– The Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Club will follow the same meet rules as the meet, including the shot put, weight throw, distance races, etc.
– There will be one meet representative from each Distance Group at the Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Clubs meeting, who will report the events to the meet committee.
– The Texas Tech Indoor Track and Field Club meet representative will be responsible for announcing the event start times and locations, and will update the meet information on the meet website when the meet has been moved.
